FCTA CHARGES RESIDENTS TO COOPERATE WITH SECURITY AGENCIES

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has charged residents of the territory to cooperate with the Security Agencies in the FCT by providing useful information that would assist in tackling crime and criminality in the FCT.
Director, Department of Security Services, FCT, Adamu Gwary gave the charge during an interview with Abuja Digest Newspaper in Abuja.
The Director explained that the security of lives and property is the primary responsibility of the government at any level; insisting however, that every resident has a role to play in maintaining law and order in the community.
Gwary said Community Policing is key to achieving a safe and crime-free society.
He further stated that Community Policing involves everyone; adding that Security Agencies need the collaboration and Cooperation of residents for effective crime control.
He emphasized that the Minister, Mallam Muhammad Musa Bello does not take the business of security lightly as the FCT Administration had earmarked 500 Million Naira in its 2023 budget for Community Policing.
Gwary said sensitizing the citizens is pivotal to ensuring that they know their roles and responsibilities in terms of the provision of Security Services.
According to him, “Security is everybody’s business so members of the Public should be educated on individual roles towards facilitating effective security in their Communities.”
The Director said numerous efforts and measures are being implemented by the Administration to ensure that the Territory is safe, including the provision of vehicles to Security agencies, deployment of Technology, and ongoing Sensitization of members of the Public.
In his words, “As you are aware, the FCTA made provision of 60 Vehicles in October 2022 to increase Security visibility in the Territory “.
He added that the Minister, while handing over the Vehicles said it was the first phase of such support as work is in progress on the second phase expected to take place this year.
Gwary also explained that in terms of baseline security, it is important for everyone to know the security threat around him or her, because it will assist in controlling the security situation within an environment.
The Director, therefore, urged residents to remain law abiding and cooperate with Security Agencies as well as the FCT Administration to nip crime and criminality in the bud in the Nation’s Capital.
