Information Director Charges NUJ Executives to Prioritize Training, Members’ Welfare

There is the need for aggressive training to ensure that Information Officers in the services of the Federal Capital Territory effectively contribute meaningfully to the growth and development of Abuja.

The Director of Information and Communication, FCT, Mr. Muhammad Hazat Sule, stated this while receiving the new Executive members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, FCTA Chapter that paid him a visit in his office, immediately after their election and swearing-in, Tuesday.

The Director called on the Nigeria Union of Journalists to champion the course of training and retraining of its members to enable them perform effectively in their various duty posts in the Secretariats, Departments and Agencies of the the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA).

Sule charged the newly elected exectives of the Union to prioritize the training and welfare of its members.

While congratulating the newly elected officials, he said the training will further equip the Information Officers and make them more relevant.

His words: “You have to ensure that the welfare and the overall interests of your members are prioritized and well catered for.”

He tasked them to work hard as that will guarantee that success of their tenure as well as have a lasting impact the members of the union.

According to him, “The welfare of your members should be utmost, elections are over, it is now time for work, ensure that their interest is protected”.

The Director enjoined the new Exco to set targets they are want to achieve, so as to leave a legacy that posterity will remember them for.

He emphasized the importance of the FCTA-NUJ Chapel because it remains the landlord to other Chapels, State Council and even the National; noting that “we have to take the lead.”

The Director lauded the efforts of the previous executives for their efforts in ensuring that members received their way-in allowance to most members.

While acknowledging the confidence bestowed on her, the newly elected Chairman, Ngozi Ufomba promised to ride on the strides of the outgoing team by bringing in more programmes that will advance the progress of the union.

She noted that part of her plans is to ensure the training of members of the union occasionally to sharpen their skills.

Also speaking at the occasion, the outgoing Chairman, Kalu Emetu, lauded the visible reforms carried out by the Director since he took over the affairs of the Department.

He noted that, the challenges the team experienced did not deter them from carrying out their duties as a team.

Emetu expressed confidence on the new elected executives; saying that the elections that brought them onboard was seamless without rancor.

The newly elected officials are: Chairman: Ngozi Uloma Ufomba, General Secretary: Niyi Lawal, Vice Chairman: Hassan Sodiq, Treasurer: Innocent Mbadunugo, and Financial Secretary: Jimoh Olalekan.
